Decay & Stability

On Going Series: 2019-

Decay and Stability are a series of pieces working within the themes of the progression of time, decay and human need for stability through natural materials.

Earthworks: Leaf Fall, 2020, installation, utilizes cotton thread to sew together fallen leaves and attach them to bare branches capturing the fleeting moment of leaf fall into a constant state of action. Each leaf is sewn together in a highly meditative, precise and delicate process. With the chaos in the world Fall symbolizes the beginning of change (starting off brilliant) into the melancholy of an end; with all the chaos in the world right now, I wanted to create a piece that tries to make sense of the deterioration we are experiencing. How can I make this beautiful ephemeral moment last into a stable tranquility?

Melt, 2019, 8x8x4 in, ice, plastic, ink, is a drawing piece that captures the physical decay of the work over the course of 4 hours. Inspired by the themes of Dance in Denial the piece connects the ideas surrounding climate change and helplessness. There is a loss of control over the decay and the unsettling nature of watching the dramatic change in the object, unable to stop its transformation.
