Mocking Jeans

2020 . Jeans, Acrylic yarn, Embroidery, Buttons

Playing with repurposed clothing, I wanted to create knitted mouth and tongue appliques (a pattern adapted from @yrurari) to repair an old pair of jeans. The gesture of sticking out your tongue as a form of mockery, inspired the jeans to be turned into a satirical garment. Criticizing the patriarchal gaze on women’s bodies, clothing and gendered expectations. “The Patriarchy” is embroidered on the rear with an arrow pointing to what is colloquially referred to as “my ass hole” while a set of eyes stare wideyed.
