The Cloth Carries a Heavy Burden
12ft x 6 ft . 2020 . Canvas, Burlap, Wool, Ink
By installing a large canvas fabric into the walls of my home, I embed violent histories and traumas into a domestic intimate space. The work is inspired by the traditional contours of the “hanbok” dress blended with mark-making. As a child of Korean Immigrants growing up in Canada, fighting to keep my identity from being washed away, I reinscribe my culture and identity through the cloth.
