Surrounded by racist comments made to me during my life, the figure (a self-portrait) becomes a doll for viewer consumption. Performing to the expectations of a submissive Korean woman, it quietly takes in the remarks without resistance. Only intensely returning the gaze through an unsettling defiant stare as viewers digest the remarks laid out on fabric strips. The piece plays on the stereotypes of the silent sexy Asian woman while simultaneously challenging, destabilizing and taking control of these expectations. The installation is accompanied by Korean Komungo Sanjo music and a rhythmic performance
